The Bible, Eros and the Family   versione testuale

Cardinal Kasper, President Emeritus of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, is the author of the report on the issues concerning the family, written for the Consistory held in February of this year. This text considers the family in the order of creation and the order of the Christian redemption, the structures of sin in family life, the family as domestic Church and the problem of remarried divorcees. The entire report was published in "Il Foglio" on March 1st.

The Cardinal writes: "We cannot limit the discussion to the situation of remarried divorcees and many other difficult pastoral situations that have not been mentioned in this context. We must take a positive starting point and rediscover and proclaim the Gospel of the family in all its beauty. Truth convinces by its beauty. We must help, with words and deeds, to ensure that people find happiness in the family and, in this way, can give to other families this testimony of their joy. We need to understand the family once again as the domestic Church, and make it the preferential path of the new evangelization and of the renewal of the Church, a Church that is on the road close to the people and with the people. In the family, people are at home, or at least they are looking for a home in the family. In families, the Church encounters the reality of life. Consequently, families are the place where the pastoral action and the urgent needs of the new evangelization are experienced. The family is the future. For the Church as well, it is the way into the future."
