Archbishop Paglia from Madrid: "May families abandon every form of self-enclosure and put themselves in a state of mission"

"The Church bears the responsibility of showing to the world that the generative and stable bond of a man and a woman truly builds up human communities of human stature, and promotes the circulation of the affective dimensions as well as the responsibilities of bonds which cannot exist in any other form." Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, President of the Pontifical Council for the Family, made this statement in his intervention at the presentation ceremony of the XVI Congress, organized by the Catholic Association of Propagandists and the CEU San Pablo University Foundation, which will be held in Madrid on November 14th, 15th and 16th. The theme of this Congress will be: "The Family Forever: Challenges and Hopes."

"The key point to be addressed—he said—is the way in which the transmission of life determines the feeling of life: and, consequently, the accessibility of generations to the respect for the mystery of love in its origin and end. The answer comes primarily through a new springtime of Christian families, both of healthy ones and of those who are wounded; all should be helped and made able to abandon happily every form of self-enclosure, so that they may put themselves, if I may say so, 'in a state of mission,' in other words, by sharing their wealth as a family, in the sign of faith. The bonds of the families with the Church community—I have already said that they are too weak— are crucial. In today's fragmentation of what is human—said Msgr. Paglia—, a new impetus in the Church's mission is reopening precisely from this source."
