Through a Woman's Eyes   versione testuale
True stories of families told by 23 women auditors at the Synod

The XII General Congregation on the morning of Friday, October 16th, was marked by a feminine presence. Twenty-three women auditors brought into the aula the true stories of families. 262 Synod Fathers participated in the work, in the presence of the Pope.

The words of the auditors—L’Osservatore Romano reports—repeatedly denounced all forms of abuse and violence, especially against women. From these interventions emerged the proposal of a clear appeal against trafficking in human beings, of which women with children are the primary victims.
Through fragments of real life, the role and dignity of older people was also underscored, along with the spontaneity of children who, with their sincerity, contribute to an authentic model of family life. The issue of natural methods for fertility regulation has been proposed, together with a commitment, to combat anti-Christian culture that also feeds on globalized economics and the social crisis. It was also deemed appropriate, finally, that Christian families unite more to manifest, through deeds, their fundamental values, beginning with mutual respect—perhaps even using the occasion of the baptism of children as a privileged place for catechesis and conversion. Among those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Marqus Odeesho from Iraq, Sister Berta Maria Porras Fallas from Costa Rica, Professor María Marcela Mazzini from Argentina, and the coordinator of the L'Osservatore Romano's monthly review "donne chiesa mondo," Lucetta Scaraffia.
