Ideas in Dialogue for the Family
From the meeting organized by the PCF and La Civiltà Cattolica have emerged original contributions, useful for better contextualizing the domestic cell in a time of great change

In-depth analyses of the family in the third millennium were presented through the views of some of the top experts and scholars on the Italian and international scene at the meeting organized by our Dicastery and the magazine La Civilta Cattolica, on 12 September in Rome, under the title "Family: Vocation and Challenges. A Reflection on the Threshold of the Synod of Bishops."

On this occasion, the two volumes recently published by the PCF and the Jesuit authors—respectively of "Family and Church: An Indissoluble Bond" and "Family, a Field Hospital"—were also officially presented
The work, introduced by the President of the Pontifical Council for the Family, Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia and moderated by Fr. Antonio Spadaro, director of the Jesuit review, with contributions by three well-known speakers, allowed the large audience convened for the occasion to acquire some original reference points, useful for interpreting the new context in which the family is living at this particular moment of history. The theologian Msgr. Pierangelo Sequeri spoke about the importance of giving substance to love forever, by explaining with new words to young people how over time this love ripens from a "vaporous condition of enchantment" into a still more extraordinary loyalty, capable of resisting in the face of all the events of daily life lived together as a couple. The psychoanalyst Massimo Recalcati discussed, on the other hand, the typical lies of this era that impede men and women from saying "yes" forever, while the sociologist Chiara Giaccardi focused her lecture on the family in the flesh, and not just an abstract ideal, suggesting that the various pastoral approaches, now too specialized and segmented, should unite once again into a single whole that better reflects the family and its individual members.
