"Family, Home of Mercy" is the theme of the 2016 Family Week to be held in Colombia from 8 to 15 May. The initiative, promoted by the Office for marriage and the family of the local Bishops‘ Conference, will take place within the period referred to as "the time of the family," which marks the entire month of May and was founded with the goal—explain the promoters— of "increasing interest in a renewed and authentic culture of the family."
 
The intent, continue the Colombian bishops, is "to deepen, in this Holy Year of Mercy, the theme of forgiveness." This inspires, adds Msgr. Emir Anteliz Pablo Salas, President of the Episcopal Commission for Marriage and the Family, the desire of the local Church that "the experience of mercy, of mutual forgiveness, reconciliation and peace will be lived in the family and that all, within the family context, may grow closer to Jesus with a pilgrimage-like attitude."
