Nicaragua, At the Beginning of the First National Congress on Life and the Family
From 19 to 21 August, León will welcome hundreds of delegates for three days of panel discussions and seminars

Hundreds of religious and lay delegates from all the dioceses of Nicaragua will meet from 19 to 21 August in the old colonial city of León for the first National Congress on Life and the Family, organized by the local Bishops‘ Conference. The event will be an occasion to reflect on the problems and challenges of the Nicaraguan family in the light of Pope Francis‘ recent post-synodal Apostolic Exhortation "Amoris Laetitia."
"We see how, in recent years, marriage and the family have continuously been attacked—said Msgr. Bosco Vivas Robelo, Bishop of León and Director of the Bishops‘ Family and Life Ministry—, and this is very evident in the messages that we receive from the media."
At the conference center, there will be a structure of families: although Nicaragua is one of the nations in Central America with the fewest cases of separation and divorce, Bishop Vivas reiterated that this is precisely why it is important to "strengthen this bond of love, which keeps the family‘s unity alive." The participants will attend lectures, panel discussions, and seminars on issues such as abortion, same-sex marriage and the spread of gender ideology, which already subtly appears in early childhood. Finally, delegates and experts of the Family and Life Ministry will propose a guiding document and lines of action to be applied in all of the country‘s social and ecclesiastical realities.
