Pope Francis' Catechism 1. Nazareth   versione testuale
Nazareth

Do you know how big Nazareth was in Jesus' time? Just a little bigger than a football field!

It was a very small place that nobody knew; Yet, Jesus chose to live in this village for about thirty years, with his mother Mary and his father Joseph.
Pope Francis wanted to start his catechesis on the family with Nazareth, speaking about the country where the holiest and best story began: that of Jesus' family.

In Nazareth—the Pope explained—nothing strange or miraculous happened; only a caring mother and a father loved each other every day, welcomed and raised a son who grew into a teenager and then began asking himself what God was calling him to be: his vocation.

Nazareth welcomed and cared for a family: the most simple and important thing in the world.

"Jesus was born in a family. He could have come in a spectacular way, as a warrior or an emperor ... No, no: he came as a child of a family, in a family. This is important."

"Every Christian family can—as Mary and Joseph did—firstly welcome Jesus, listen to him, talk to him, care for him, protect him, grow with him; and so make the world better."
