Women, Leaders in Global Development   versione testuale

The Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace and Catholic women's organizations are meeting in Rome to make their contribution to the promotion and the defense of women as part of the post-2015 agenda for development. The Undersecretary of the PCF, Msgr. Carlos Vazquez is among the participants.

The Pontifical Council for the Family is being represented by its Undersecretary, Msgr. Carlos Simon Vazquez, at the International Conference in Rome, from 22 to 24 May, on "Women and the post-2015 Development Agenda: The challenges of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?"

The meeting at the Church Village Hotel intends to make a significant contribution in view of the revision of the global governance in the framework of the post-2015 development agenda, which will probably remain valid until 2030. The Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, the World Union of Catholic Women's Organizations (WUCWO) and the World Women's Alliance for Life and Family (WWALF), who have organized this conference, want to examine the old and new challenges concerning women: evaluate the progress achieved in some areas (work, agriculture, and enterprise), but also shed light on the new forms of slavery in this millennium as well as on a spreading mentality which touches essential aspects of women's lives (such as the unavailability of the body and maternity). The final objective is the elaboration of a contribution, in the form of suggestions / amendments to the proposals of the SDGs currently being negotiated in the framework of the United Nations, and which may be useful for the activities of the Holy See on the international scene.
