"What challenges are we facing? Dialoguing and making all the seeds of the family in the world germinate. Welcoming within the walls of a large building everything that is 'known,' even just a little', about the family." These were the words of Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, President of the Pontifical Council for the Family, yesterday in the Basilica of Santa Maria in Montesanto, at the meeting organized conjointly by the Diocesan Office of Communications, the Pauline's non-profit organization "Communication and Culture," and the Pontifical Lateran University, with the collaboration of Lazio's Family Forum. The meeting was inspired by Pope Francis' Message for the XLIX World Communications Day, which will be celebrated on May 17th under the theme "Communicating the Family: A Privileged Place of the Encounter with the Gift of Love."
Msgr. Paglia then emphasized that the Pope is committed not "to theoretical doctrinal but to pastoral action. The intention is to provoke a new springtime of the family, starting with the Catholics. Families are now living in a paradoxical, schizophrenic situation: I challenge you to find even one person in the world who thinks that the family is not important, and does not seek it. On the other hand, there are fragmented families. In fact—he explained—, the family must be communicated not as a theory but as good news that responds to a desire of human nature. Moreover, do not forget—he said in conclusion—that, without the families, the crisis would be even more dramatic."
