The Family: What future?   versione testuale
An African Regional Conference will be held from 23 to 25 September in Nairobi, Kenya

"The Future of the Family in Africa" is the theme of the African Regional Conference that will be held in Nairobi, Kenya, from 23 to 25 September.

"The meeting—say the promoters—will be an opportunity to celebrate the African family, to analyze its current difficulties, and to look for possible common solutions."

The focus will be on two particularly controversial topics: abortion and sex education in schools. The voluntary interruption of pregnancy, currently prohibited in over a third of the countries in sub-Saharan Africa, is in fact the center of law proposals to liberalize it in some countries, such as Malawi and Sierra Leone.
The issue of education in schools is a point of concern for the African Organization for Families, directed by Ann Kioko, which reaffirms the importance of protecting children against the imposition of new ideologies: "These programs go far beyond normal sex education. In fact, they are designed to completely change sexual and gender norms throughout society, because they openly promote promiscuity, high-risk behaviors, and the discovery of physical pleasure even for very young children."
