The population expressed itself in the referendum: the Constitution protects the stable and exclusive union between a man and a woman

The Croatian population, with the majority of 65% in a referendum, despite the hostile communication campaign promoted by lobbies, decided that the definition of marriage as a «permanent and exclusive union between a man and a woman» should be included in the Constitution.

«We believe that the issues of marriage, children and family are so important that the whole society has to decide about them», said Zeljka Markic, one of the leaders of the Catholic associations and movements that promoted the referendum. To the question of the referendum: “Do you agree with the introduction in the Constitution of the proposition that marriage is the permanent and exclusive union between a man and a woman?”, the Croats have replied: “Yes.”

Catholics constitute nearly 90% of the Croatia’s population.
