In an interview, the Archbishop of Douala, Msgr. Kleda, urges families to say "no" to homosexuality

Homosexuality, incest and child sexual abuse are phenomena to which Cameroon’s society is not immune, so we must be very attentive and react. Msgr. Samuel Kleda, Archbishop of Douala, voiced this warning in an interview posted on www.leffortcamerounais.info. The President of the Episcopal Conference of Cameroon condemns every form of deviation in the strongest terms and urges Christians to be ready to defend the dignity of the human person, of marriage and of the family. While strong emphasis is given worldwide to the promotion of so-called "gay marriage", Archbishop Kleda insists: "We cannot accept this practice." "For a pastor—he explains—, homosexuality is a serious deviation aimed at destroying the family. In Africa, according to ancient traditions, gay marriage does not exist, there is merely a union between two people of the same sex. As the creation narrative says, God created man and woman to live together and form a family. We believe that marriage must be respected in accordance with God's plan." In Africa, says the Archbishop of Douala, "gay marriage does not make sense; it's folly. We must reject it and do everything possible to ensure that this scourge does not take root here."
