Post-Abortion Pastoral Support   versione testuale

The Department of "Family Life and Youth" of the Latin American Episcopal Council (CELAM) promoted, from 13 to 17 July 2015 in the city of Bogota, the first Latin American meeting of pastoral workers dedicated to post-abortion support and accompaniment.

In Bogota, from 13 to 17 July 2015, the Department of "Family Life and Youth" of the Latin American Episcopal Council (CELAM), held the first Latin American meeting of pastoral workers dedicated to post-abortion support. The meeting was attended by 65 pastoral workers from almost all the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean. Executive Secretaries of Episcopal Commissions for family ministry from different nations as well as leaders of civil associations specialized in assisting post-abortion accompaniment were among the participants. Some were attending their fifth Pan-American meeting.
The gathering was intended to strengthen the exchange of experience between the different teams working to support people after an abortion, especially agents of the family ministry and life throughout Latin American countries, and also to offer and consolidate contents that facilitate service in the light of faith, as a path of recovery for those suffering from the deep pain that leaves abortion.
During the meeting, issues such as the consequences of abortion and its impact on the family were also discussed, with insights and guidelines on these issues for family ministry and service to life in Latin America.
Fr. Jose Guillermo Gutierrez, official of our Pontifical Council, attended the meeting and gave the inaugural lecture under the title "Post-Abortion Pastoral Care, on the XX Anniversary of the Evangelium Vitae."
