The Transmission and Education of the Christian Faith in the Family in Brazil

The Episcopal Pastoral Commission for Life and the Family has published, conjointly with the Brazilian Bishop’s Committee for Life and the Family, the document “The Time of the Family. The Transmission and Education of the Christian faith in the Family.” This aid for 2013 will also be useful for the National Family Week, to be held in August.

From April 26th to 28th, the 37th National Assembly of family ministry in Brazil was held in Brasilia, with the participation of seven bishops and many priests as well as married couples from the country’s seventeen dioceses.

The Christian family looks to itself in a special way within the context of the primordial project of educating the person in the dimension of divine love. The family is an social subject indispensable for the establishment of a culture of peace,” writes Msgr. João Carlos Petrini, President of the Bishop’s Committee on Life and the Family, in the preface to this document, which contains, among other things, prayers for Mother's Day, Father's Day and marriage anniversaries, as well as five stories about the couples of saints: the French philosopher Jacques Maritain and his wife Raissa Oumancoff Russian, the Italians Giovanni and Rosetta Franzi Gheddo; the Brazilians Jeronimo de Castro and Zelia Magalhaes; the Austrians Franz and Franziska Schwaninger Jägerstätter, and the couple of Normandy Louis and Zelie Guerin Martin.
