A Historic Vote in Uruguay   versione testuale
Msgr. Paglia hailed the enthusiasm of those who defend the right to life in Uruguay

On Sunday, June 23rd, Uruguayans are called to express themselves, by voting, with respect to performing, or not, a referendum to repeal the abortion law that has been in force in the country since the end of 2012 and allows abortion up to the twelfth week of pregnancy. If at least 25% of the electors vote YES (about 655,000 votes) then in October the referendum that could repeal this ethically unjust law will take place.

The bishop responsible for the family ministry of the Episcopal Conference, Msgr. Jaime Fuentes, has asked for prayers for the success of this initiative. Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, President of the Pontifical Council for the Family has congratulated the believers and non-believers who, in Uruguay and throughout Latin America, defend the first of human rights, the right to life, and he supports this prayer intention, while fully respecting the democratic institutions of this South American nation.
