Young People are “Street Preachers”   versione testuale
Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation “Evangelii Gaudium” calls to listen to young people and speak to them in their language

Young people are at the heart of the Church’s pastoral care. In No. 105 of the Apostolic Exhortation “Evangelii Gaudium” we read: «Young people often fail to find responses to their concerns, needs, problems and hurts». «As adults— Pope Francis writes —we find it hard to listen patiently to them, to appreciate their concerns and demands, and to speak to them in a language they can understand. For the same reason, our efforts in the field of education do not produce the results expected».

Youth movements and organizations are the work of the Spirit. «There remains a need, however, to ensure that these associations actively participate in the Church’s overall pastoral efforts» (No. 105). Pope Francis recalls that progress has been made in youth ministry, in two areas: «the awareness that the entire community is called to evangelize and educate the young, and the urgent need for the young to exercise greater leadership».
«How beautiful it is to see that young people are ‘street preachers,’ joyfully bringing Jesus to every street, every town square and every corner of the earth!» (No. 106).
