Family and Vocations   versione testuale
In Vietnam, family ministry is the keystone. Bishop Paul Bui Van Doc: "If there are holy families, we will have more priests."

Attentive family ministry, the quality of faith, and prayer in the families constitute the secret to keeping vocations to the priesthood alive in Vietnam: "If a family is holy, vocations may be born there," said Msgr. Paul Bui Van Doc, Archbishop of Hochiminh Ville, one of the twenty-four Metropolitans who have received the Pallium from Pope Francis. For the Prelate, who is also President of the Vietnamese Bishops' Conference, one of the priorities in the local Church is the formation of priests and seminarians, whose numbers continue to be significantly high: "Vocations are flourishing. In our major seminary in Hochiminh, which welcomes candidates from three dioceses—he added—, we have approximately 250 major seminarians. There eight seminaries in the country, with more than 3 thousand candidates, both diocesan and religious. However, the formation of these young men is now more difficult because of the influence of a culture of secularization, of practical materialism, and an individualistic mentality that is more insidious than State atheism." The root of flowering vocations—the Archbishop explained to Fides—is "the life of Christian families, who still have a good quality of faith and witness. For this reason, family ministry is very important: the family is the cradle of vocations; if there are holy families, we will have more priests. At the level of the dioceses, but also in the Episcopal Conference, we put special emphasis on the family ministry."
