Effective Policy   versione testuale
In a statement, the religious institutions launch an appeal to protect families in Slovakia

Slovakia needs "effective family policy" to meet the great cultural and social transformations in its society. Six senior representatives, including President of the Bishops' Conference, Msgr. Stanislav Zvolensky, and the Greco-Catholic Metropolitan Archbishop, Msgr. Jan Babjak, explained this in the declaration made by the leaders of different Christian denominations and the Union of Jewish religious communities in Slovakia concerning the demographic change in the Republic of Slovakia.

"We call on the civil representatives and on the citizens of our country to find solutions that can improve the position of families in society," says the statement. "Individualism and consumerism continue to grow; in the last twenty years, we have seen a decline in the fertility rate in our country and—warn the religious leaders— this could lead to serious social, cultural and economic problems." "A society without children, a society that does not create the right conditions for families, cannot survive." Slovakia's religious leaders finally emphasize that the family should be the center of attention of all governments and suggest the introduction of a so-called "family clause" that would allow to evaluate the possible impact of each legislative proposal on the situation of the family.
