“Young People: the Window to the Future”   versione testuale
Pope Francis in Rio greets the Brazilians and the young people from every continent, promoting the bond between generations

«Young people are the window through which the future enters the world. They are the window, and so they present us with great challenges. Our generation will show that it can rise to the promise found in each young person when we know how to give them space. This means that we have to create the material and spiritual conditions for their full development, by giving them a solid basis on which to build their lives, guaranteeing their safety and education so that they develop their full potential, and passing on to them lasting values that make life worth living».

With these words Pope Francis greeted the Brazilians, in his first public meeting in Rio de Janeiro, for the World Youth Day (July 23rd-28th). «I’m here to meet young people who have come from all over the world, drawn to the open arms of Christ the Redeemer… young people who speak many languages and bring with them different cultures, bonded together by pure truth and authentic love in spite of differences», said the Pontiff, who has called again, among other things, for the strengthening of the pact between generations for a better future for all. The elderly − Pope Bergoglio said − «pass on to us the wisdom and values of life, love for the homeland and for the family, all the things we need».
