MACRO launches a course for experiencing motherhood conjointly through the eyes of art and medicine

"Giving Birth with Art or the Art of Giving Birth" is the project exhibited at MACRO – Museum of Contemporary Art, from 26 January to 1 March. This event was designed in 2014 by Antonio Martino, gynecologist at San Pietro Fatebenefratelli Hospital in Rome, and Miriam Mirolla, professor of Psychology at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome.

This a course is a prelude to interdisciplinary and innovative childbirth, with six weekly meetings, aimed at expectant mothers, their partners and anyone who wishes to explore the theme of the origin, of bodily self-perception and creativity. Gynecologists, obstetricians, neonatologists, biologists, nutritionists, specialists in aesthetic medicine, artists, art historians, curators, superintendents, gallery managers and owners, and analysts will delve into issues related to motherhood, conjointly through the eyes of art and medical science.
"Inviting pregnant women to a museum rather than to a hospital—the promoters explain—presupposes the idea that motherhood is one of the most extraordinary creative events as well as the opportunity for a social group to make an evolutionary leap into new relational mindfulness."
